All My Copyrights, GONE!

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 5, 2012, 3:36 PM

********UPDATE********

Well after a week or so from sending my first email to them, I've yet to hear anything back from MyFreeCopyright.com. For what could have been a great 'safeguard' company, I'm completely disappointed in their lack of customer service or their checks and balances when it comes to deleting entire accounts.  Oh well.  The true safeguard comes from the files saved and backed up on my HD and Externals that are date/time stamped.

User beware when it comes to dealing with MyFreeCopyright.com

I'm just sick to my stomach right now.  I went to register a new image with MyFreeCopyright.com and my log in wouldn't work.  I put in a request to change my password thinking I forgot which one i was using here and it tells me my email address isn't registered with the site.  I came here and clicked on one of my links to the copyrights and it says this..

The requested Copyright has been removed.
If you feel this is a mistake, please contact support@myfreecopyright.com. Be sure to include any details about the copyright you can.
Safely yours,

MyFreeCopyright

Protect Your Original Creation

I'm so sick to my stomach right now.  Some ass hat hacked my account and deleted all of my copyrights.  Why is it when I saw this the first person i thought of was that jackass from the JedivSith.com website who had total issue with removing one of my images he used then MONTHS LATER tried to bash me on their forums.  Luckily some really nice people there stood up for me and other artists, but I can't help but think this complete stranger is so irked/obsessed with me asking him to remove my work, that they would do this.  I really hope that's not the case.  If any of you use MyFreeCopyright check your accounts and make sure they are active still.  Change up the passwords to make them extremely hard to crack.

:frustrated:  I hope MFC admin can reverse all this.  Lucky for me I saved each and every email confirmation,  all 118 of them.

Hey Kristafee, i totally can relate to your feeling of sickness. The same thing happened to me, and i just found out that myfreecopyright.com was sold to a new owner in Hong Kong and they deleted all of the accounts prior to July 2012.
What further sickens me is that an older external hard drive of mine crashed and i can't access the songs that were there. I feel as if i was robbed, still researching a cause of action or my next step. Good luck with all your work.

OMG that is horrible! I'm so sorry you lost those songs. It was one thing to lose all the copyrights, but I back up at least twice over, hd and external :/. I did save all the emails I got though. Have you heard of SafeCreate? They are another site and they appear very stable. Now that I know MFC was sold, I won't go back to them. Thanks for the info.

I had to re-register with mine as well, I thought maybe I just hadn't used it for a couple months and had to recreate the account. I had no idea it was something like that!

Did you ever get a resolve to this? I'm not sure it's a hack, the same thing happened to me. All of them gone like I never even had an account there. I think they just have a weak database or flawed system or something. And it's not because of fanart, none of the images I registered were fanart and BAM! gone.

OMG Brian you're the first one to tell me it's happened to you as well!!! I was really starting to wonder about this. I never did get a resolution. I emailed and I emailed and I emailed again (waiting a week or so between emails) and I never received a reply. My last email was a not so nice one on how they lack a check and balance system for deleting entire accounts and copyrights. I did re-up a whole new account, simply to have a starting point of web postings, nothing more. If it is such a weak system this is sad. It really is a good idea.

I bet this has probably happened to lots of people. Either that or we're like 2 in a million ;) Yeah I think they just have a weak system, or have abandoned it. If you're not even getting a response perhaps whoever runs it is unable to keep up with it, or unwilling. Either way I'm going to look around for another site to see if there is something like it out there because I did like the idea.

The good news is, -technically- you still hold copyright on those images. Having it registered is merely an extra added step of formality. The moment you created that work, it was yours, and you don't -need- to have it registered to have it be yours.

No panicking. :) It'll be okay.

Oh no doubt! Not only is it date/time stamped and saved on my external HD, I still have all 117 conformation emails from MFC with the date/time, names and description of the pieces. It would just be a huge pain to have to go back and put all those back in. And not all of my work is done that way. I didn't start doing it till that Chad Love Lameass guy thought he could make millions off all that stolen art.

I really hope it's not the person that came to mind. If it is, that would be the most childish and lamest grudge ever. It wasn't until months later he started this campaign against me for asking to remove my art. But i really do hope this is an isolated incident and no one else was effected.
